This was the year that a slew of games was
introduced to our participants with the help of many a volunteer. The tournament had
reached such a size that with the new events we really needed to have volunteers
to help us out. Each volunteer received a shirt with the motto "Life is Too Short
Swing Hard".
And there was plenty of hard swinging going on
everywhere. Games such as the "Happy Gilmore" was sad, the "Gus
Najera" was a wee bit short since we had no short club, the "Three Man
Hole" was a bit dicey but was very much enjoyed by all, and the "Oklahoma Fire
Drill" was fast and furious.
In addition to welcoming new events, 1999 saw
a great deal of new faces. Old friends and new were happy (understatement) to see our
volunteers passing out drinks from the roving beer carts. Rosemary Mahony,
who monitored our stuff at the pavilion, reported that the local Ambucs tournament players
on the course with us had been swiping our beer. Shame, shame...what is the world coming
to when the Ambucs try to screw you?
Everyone partied like it was
1999 because it was the last Wendeborn Watkins Web Classic of the century. But
certainly not the last ever!
