Summary: 1996 was the inaugural event of the Wendeborn
Watkins Web tournaments. The number of teams and prizes were minimal but the party was
grand.
The tournament was a staggered start so the
first teams out had the upper hand as the later teams came in. The atmosphere was like a
scene out of Caddyshack as all assembled round the 18th green to offer their
best heckling at the next unsuspecting team that walked up. Many a staunch golfer shanked
their last hole thanks to the likes of John Allmon.
On a side bet, Mark Watkins won a case of
Heineken from the less than capable "Pegasaurus" team led by
Roger Froehlich.
Unfortunately the inexperienced directors had a little too much beer that day, and failed
to keep track of the team scores. As you can of course see by the
absence of scoring data here.
Many a golf ball was lost this day, but many
a friend was made and a tradition was started.
